Open House shines despite rain

Spruce Lake’s Spring Fest Open House June 4th was a shining success – in spite of the showers! Yes, for the third year in a row, our community Open House has coincided with wet weather but nevertheless, approximately 800 participants enjoyed the afternoon of music, food, fun and fellowship. God has a sense of humor, we know, as the Spruce Mountain dedication service was moved from the mountain-top to inside Lakeview Program Center at 3:00 p.m., as a light drizzle was giving way to genuine showers. At the close of the day, the clouds folded up to reveal soft sunshine as our guests headed for home!

Executive Director Mark Swartley led the Mountain Dedication Service, commemorating the amazing debt-free purchase of Spruce Mountain in February. He led the crowd in the same prayer for God’s blessing upon our ministry as had been prayed at Spruce Lake’s inaugural dedication service in 1963.

The afternoon offering amounted to just over $5,000 for camperships for Day Camp, fulfilling our desire and goal that no child miss out on camp because of financial need.

Our annual Open House is a free event for the community, and is a great way for learning about Spruce Lake’s ministries and programs, meeting staff and friends old and new, and simply having a good time!
